My Latest Film directed for Dare/ Barclaycard:

is a documentary on Freerunning. It's a Dare project, for the nice people over at Barclaycard and is made as a behind the scenes look at the Barclaycard World Freerunning championship two weeks ago.

Our nice client came to us with an open content brief; Barclaycard sponsor the Championship, shelling out a lot of cash this year to host the event in London's most iconic Trafalgar Square; and they wanted some film content.

My response was to split the brief in two; pitching a top level highlights film (shown below on my last post) that we would turn around within 24 hours of the event it's self, then make a more in depth documentary about free running as a sport. I wanted to use the athletes on the day to tell the story of free running through their eyes. A little about the day it's self, about the judging - how do you judge a sport that is more about self expression than competition; and a bit about the inspiration which drives those taking part.

It's the first piece of work I've made at Dare in a while that I've been able to get to that almost happy place with. I was given a long leash to do my own thing with the interviews that I took on the day, and working with Matt Chodan as my editor I think we've reached a good place.

It's a ball ache, but also a good mental discipline being the director and the agency creative on a job. Doing the directors cut with Matt got the film to the place I thought was good to go. Then taking agency creative direction form Flo, puts me in that strange head space of wanting to push the cause of the Director's cut, while understanding the agency line to slice a minute off the edit. It's a strange feeling being forced to butcher your own work, but then turning that thought around from butchery to cutting straight to the point. Hopefully together we've done the work justice and given the athletes the voice they deserve.
