Free WiFi in London

This Map:

Is a neat GMaps Mashup showing everybody's favorite thing - free WiFi for you to use in Town. Not much more to say other than to point out that it's a growing map with a suggestions box, so if you find free wifi that's not on it, then email the nice people and they'll update the map.

sombody please ban banner ads

I stopped watching tv regularly a while ago because it got to the stage with a lot of these free channels which popped up on my tv after my flatmate installed one of these digibox things mainly because i get really pissed off by ad breaks every ten f'ing minutes during evening programming now i log onto check my mail and my eyes are offended so often by bad digital ads i mean like ugly ones which surely are designed to offend that i now think that they should all be banned yes we work because people are prepared to pay for them and so digital agencies exist however we also make sites and other digital advertising thingeymajigs so cant somebody ban banner ads and we can focus on building a better digital future please please please you see how tired your eyes become after reading this post which has no punctuation well thats how my eyes feel right now while checking my mail after a long day and tragic session in the pub only to find my mailbox swamped with more advertising than unread mail im sure that some other people must feel like this surely and if not then they can hopefully inform me as to the stupidity of my opinion well

Digital Agency seeks Physical Effects

Shooting sand as some Physical effects elements with Alexis from Difference today. This is where I feel most at home... behind a camera monitor in a studio, turning ideas into captured images to help tell a story. The Digital Agency world is great, but far too clinical after a while for me; spending every day driving a computer... manipulating elements digitally.

Getting stuck in, getting physical, getting back to reality and capturing it on film; shooting and reshooting; setting and resetting shots. This is my passion - a reflection which often catches me after a day on-set shooting people/places/elements.

Porn in Good Taste

ENOUGH I SAY! To the planners, producers and A/C directors who work in Interactive media, seated conveniently across from designers and art directors aplenty - there is simply no longer an excuse for stuffy diagrams, obscure charts and concentric circular diagrams which are supposed to tell us something about the nature of the industry within which we work.

Why are we are still presented with a page of Bar Charts and Pie Graphs from M.S. Excel as the "interesting" parts of presentations that are supposed to be conveying information about media which is inherently non-linear in nature.

I stand very much with Tufte on this matter of making the information representation medium suit the subject matter. At the same time I have very few great examples of interesting statistical presentations. However, I now have one Brilliant one:

Freedom of Information

Old news it is, but since the original breaking news regarding the riot on Digg a few weeks back, I was browsing a few hacker forums hoping to pick up some snippets of information regarding how to Crack HD-DVD DRM in the interest of keeping information free, and being able to back up any HD-DVD content that I purchase. Suddenly is dawned on me - the interweb is a great thing.

Onward Towards The End

I'm loving the ideas suggested by Gridrunner. Nearly there with the documentary, just a few more long lights to go....

More Screens at the Weekend

Well, it's the weekend and yet again I'm waiting, looking at "Rendering..." bars. This is the story of my life. I love it and I hate it. It's all about the results at the end, but right now I'm about to explode with frustration. This documentary has been "nearly done" since January. ok, deep breath... here goes....

Map of the Digital Seas

...Not sure I agree whole heartedly with this, however it presents it in a much nicer cartographic way than the ugly venn diagrams that I see planners so often presenting in long-winded presentations which try to unpick the complicated relationships which keep the digital market tied together.

I'm not sure where it's from as it was sent to me in an email from my girlfriend; send me a link and I'll post the Via.

Dare do DRTV

And so, here I am, just over one year into the crazy world of Dare and ddddigital Advertising and I didn't expect to be posting a Vodafone DRTV in the folio of projects worked on at this place. For my part I have to pass on all production credits to the amazingly talented illustration hands of Gavin L from the Creative Dpt, and Luke from the creative hothouse that is Dareschool. My contribution was in the technical/ finishing area only, wrangling renders etc.

I think that the work stands by its self, without any long winded appreciations from my dulcet tones; it has all of the style that we should be expecting from (otherwise often dull) DRTV commercials, and definitely is a champion. It seems that creativity and perseverance (a lot of sweat and mouse-grease from Gav), have outperformed the super-high production budgets and professional broadcast work flows of the big-boy agencies who rule the roost in this field of putting together TV commercials. Hats off to all involved - Eduardo lists the credits on his blog. For my part, only a satisfied smile and the hope that Dare continues to play a part in bringing it's creative edge onto the Telly.

London's Kerning

Heiss Sent this round the creative department a few days ago. It's been sitting on my desktop because I find it interesting, an information representation worthy perhaps of Mr Edward R Tuffe. If I could afford the large format poster at around £100 then I would, in the meantime I'll make do with a low-res giff on my blog... I think it's via the .

I Love this Town:

Sometimes I feel like I'm on some sort of continual trip. Only in a Digital Advertising Creative Department can time spent uploading useless videos of lunchtime excursions down the craziness of Oxford Street be constituted as time well spent. Yesterday Lunchtime I stumbled out of a book shop and into some sort of Pseudo-Religious Carnival led by a 20 foot tall Hare Krishna on a giant penny farthing bicycle. I recorded the event thus:
